The Uncomfortable Truth About Corporate Diversity Initiatives

When talking with a successful leader in DNI, working in one of the largest companies in America, Cordell Carter was told a hard truth.

The leader shared a shocking statistic with him: "75% of my peers in the DNI space got their jobs after George Floyd was killed." 🎭

In the wake of this tragedy, many companies hastily appointed their highest-ranked person of color as Chief Diversity Equity Inclusion Officer. Often, these appointments came with no budget, no plan, no team, and no strategy.

As Mr. Carter puts it, this approach is a poorly intended and almost cynical move. A disservice to the individuals placed in these positions and the organizations they serve. 🏢

We must strive to be better, both as organizations and as humans. It's time to rethink our approach to diversity and inclusion and ensure that it is not just a reaction but a proactive and thoughtful strategy. 🌏
