This is How Curiosity Promotes Better Understanding

Curiosity promotes better understanding.

When faced with an opposing idea, be curious as to WHY it differs from what you know.

When people are presented with the idea that is different from their own, it is natural to want to understand why that perspective exists.

However, instead of immediately writing off the opposing idea, it is vital to be curious about it. What could possibly lead someone to think this way? What experiences or information do they have that led them to this conclusion?

Of course, this does not mean that you should agree with the opposing idea, but rather that you should try to see things from their perspective.

Only by truly understanding where they are coming from can you hope to communicate with them effectively and potentially change their mind.
